OXFORD BRIDGE
7
is the latest version of this medal-winning,
state-of-the-art bridge program from Thinking Games. Using Expert System Technology,
OXFORD BRIDGE incorporates major advances, not available in other bridge software.
Featuring three levels of play, OXFORD BRIDGE can play fast on even modest hardware, or
harness the power of the latest processors to analyse the cards in minute detail.
OXFORD BRIDGE can play ACOL, Standard English, 5-Card Majors, and Standard American - even one system against another. Each includes common conventions such as Blackwood, Gerber, Stayman and take-out doubles, plus many optional features, like weak/strong/variable NT, weak/strong two bids, the strong two club system, pre-emptive openings, Jacoby transfers, Baron responses, Flint, Grand-slam Force, cue bids, etc. You can switch systems and conventions at any time to compare how hands are bid with different options.
| Four bidding systems | ACOL, Standard English, 5-Card Majors and Standard American |
| Switchable conventions | Weak / strong NT, two bids and many other options |
| Bid and play explanations | Let the computer tell you why! |
| Define your own conventions | Change or add to the built-in bidding systems |
OXFORD BRIDGE has a unique BIDDING DESIGN SYSTEM which allows
you to change any or all of the supplied bidding systems to meet your own requirements. You
can even design entirely new systems from scratch! Bidding systems can be edited
interactively, even while playing a hand, so you can test out changes immediately. The powerful
Bidding Commentary / Post Mortem tool can be used to trace differences between your bidding and the program's, to
further refine your system. Opening lead style can also be defined.
BID AND PLAY EXPLANATIONS - The program provides explanations for it's bids and plays. It also tells you what it has deduced from your bids. For each bid both a reason - (why did you bid that?) and a list of inferences - (what can be understood from that bid?) are given. For the play, declarer's strategy is shown.
Easy to Use: OXFORD BRIDGE was designed with ease of use in mind. The
bidding and play feature full graphics with 'point and click' operation, or if you prefer you can
simply use your keyboard. The menu layout is intuitive, similar in look and feel to other Windows
programs. The menus are always available, even in the middle of playing a hand, resulting in
complete flexibility of use.
Rubber, duplicate pairs and teams: OXFORD BRIDGE can deal an infinite number of random rubber bridge hands. At duplicate pairs or teams there are 10 million sets of 24 hands to choose from, plus you can define your own. You can also select hands of specific types using the extensive Restricted Deal feature.
Multi-player support: Several methods are supported for allowing two (or more)
players at a single screen. Alternatively, deal real cards and have each player enter (just) their
cards into the program. The computer can 'make up the four', playing the unseen hand(s).
Network play over a LAN is also supported.
Full and practice play modes: Oxford Bridge can play according to normal bridge rules, or if you choose, in 'practice' mode where you can: play with all hands visible, take-back bids and plays, abandon/restart the play from any point, ask the program to suggest bids and plays, and so on. Normally, Oxford Bridge does not 'peek' at the unseen cards during play (unlike some bridge software). However, there is a 'double dummy' option, which allows you to explore the play of the hand with all cards known.
Review and replay: OXFORD BRIDGE allows you to rebid and replay hands any
number of times, answering those eternal 'what if' questions. The results of the most recent
bidding and play sequences can be reviewed. Different contracts can be selected for play. You
can also choose 'defence redeal', which allows you to play the same declarer/dummy hands
against different distributions of the unseen cards.
Claim and Concede Options: Reduce the time taken to play out hands. Claims are fully checked.
Save, load and hand entry: OXFORD BRIDGE can save and load complete deals
of cards, along with the most recent bidding and play sequence. You can enter your own hands
and edit existing ones.
Printing: Print a complete deal either as graphics or text. Print individual hands, or complete sets, allowing two or more players to play without cards visible on screen.
